2010 FACT SHEET

WHERE: Maui Community College Campus
The 10th Annual Maui Matsuri is a free admission event to the public produced by a Volunteer Team and located on the Maui Community College campus in Kahului, Maui. We had over 8,000 attendees to the 2009 Festival.
Components include:
- Family Movie Night on May 14, 2010 in the Maui Community College Student Center (Pilina Building)
The film "Only the Brave" written and directed by Lane Nishikawa will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Nishikawa will be available to sign DVDs which will be available for purchase.
An anime film (film to be determined) will be shown following "Only the Brave."
- Japanese and Okinawan Cultural Entertainment
- Kodomo Corner – Cultural crafts for kids
- Demonstrations, Exhibits and hands on activities for adults
- Obon Dancing
- Craft & Commercial Vendors
- Food Booths
- A Variety of Contests (Manga, Art, Natto & Saimin Eating Contests, as well as inaugural Hanafuda Tournament)
The event is produced by a 100% Volunteer Team, led by co-chairs Kay Fukumoto, Yuki Lei Sugimura, Tiffany Iida, and Lynn Araki-Regan. The festival is presented by the Japanese Cultural Society of Maui. Sponsors include Hawai’i Tourism Authority, County of Maui, Island Honda and Maui Taiko. Private donations and sponsorships also support the event. The goal is to produce a Festival that grows more spectacular annually and expose the mainstream population to the diverse Japanese cultural arts and traditions.
This year's honorary chair is U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye.
A kickoff event will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center to stimulate interest and excitement about the upcoming 10th Annual Maui Matsuri.
