Halau Hula O Keola Ali O Ke Kai

“I loved hula from the very start,” said Iola Caldito Balubar, a kumu hula and professional Polynesian dancer. It became her life and her career, reported the Maui News.
One of Maui’s favorite Kumu Hula, aunty Iola has been teaching her award-winning halau, with students from keiki to kupuna, dances of Polynesia including Hawaiian, Tahitian, Maori and Samoan for 40 years.
The halau has entered many well-known hula competitions in Hawai’i, from the Queen Lili’uokalani Keiki Hula in Oahu to the Merrie Monarch on Hawai’i Island to competitions in Las Vegas and San Francisco.
The halau has performed at resort luau shows, shopping centers, and festivals on Maui and in Japan. Many well-known Maui musicians will be providing the music, including Richard Ho’opi’i, Hulu Lindsey, the Waiheu Sons, Uluwehi Guerrero, Ernie & Damien Paiva, Kamaka Fernandez and many more.
Iola Balubar’s halau will be performing at the Children’s Festival.
