Maui Chinese Martial Arts & Lion Dance
Maui Chinese Martial Arts & Lion Dance is based in Kahului and led by Sifu Arlie-Avery Asiu.
The group originated from the Maui Chinese Martial Arts Academy (MCMAA), which was founded by the late Sifu Steve Catugal in 1989. Sifu Steve taught hundreds of students of all ages in the art of Tao Ga Kung Fu and Lum-Style Tai Chi Chuan, as well as Chinese Lion Dance. During Sifu Steve’s tenure, his academy peformed numerous lion dances for all occasions, including Lunar New Year, weddings, birthday parties, cultural events and more.
With Sifu Steve’s passing in 2019, the helm of MCMAA was bestowed upon Sifu Arlie, who had been a student of the organization since 1990. The Maui Chinese Martial Arts & Lion Dance group focuses on teaching the art of Lum-Style Tai Chi Chuan and Chinese Lion Dance, and continues MCMAA’s legacy of performing at various events.
