Ranga Pae
Ranga Pae (which means "Encircling the Earth" in Maori) was formed in 1995 by the husband and wife team of Kimo and Jody Huybrechts
Jody started playing guitar when she was eight years old and studied with many teachers, including grammy-winner Wayne Johnson. She played guitar, flute, and electric bass in several bands before studying koto in Japan with dai shihan (Grand Master) Mutsuko Miyata and shihan (Master) Dr. Bernice Kisako Hirai in Honolulu.
Kimo studied guitar with many teachers, and classical Indian vocals and sitar in Kathmandu, Nepal with Sri Ram Achriya.
In addition to being trained in western and eastern music, Kimo & Jody both hold bachelor’s degrees in cultural anthropology with additional coursework in ethnomusicology. Their mission is to promote appreciation of cultural music and instruments through performing, teaching, composing, and recording.
Kimo & Jody have been performing at Maui’s finest venues since 1998 for corporate functions, community events, and weddings. From 2001 through 2008 they appeared nightly at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua’s signature restaurant The Banyan Tree, and at the award-winning restaurant Merriman’s Kapalua from 2008 to 2020.
Ranga Pae has released three albums: Waihua, Full Circle, and Like Rain which are available to download or stream on your favorite music app. Their album Waihua was nominated “INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR” by the prestigious Na Hoku Hanohano Awards in 2010.
